FamilyStories ("we", "us", "our") is a mobile application that helps families preserve and share memories through structured questions and a shared family tree. We are the data controller for the personal data processed through FamilyStories.

2. Data we collect
We collect the following categories of personal data:
- Account data: email address and authentication information when you sign up via email, Google, or Apple.
- Profile data: name, profile picture, and any personal information you choose to share in your answers.
- Family data: family names, members, relationships, and genealogical information you create or import.
- Answer data: your responses to the 100 family questions, including any photos or voice recordings you attach.
- Usage data: device information, app version, and basic usage analytics to improve the service.
- Voice recordings: if you use the voice-to-text feature, audio is processed in real time and is not permanently stored.
3. How we use your data
We use your personal data to:
- Create and manage your FamilyStories account.
- Deliver the core features: question answering, family tree building, and book generation.
- Enable sharing between family members within the same family group.
- Improve the app and fix bugs.
- Communicate with you about your account and provide support.
We never sell your personal data to third parties or use it for advertising purposes.
4. Data sharing
Your data is shared only in the following circumstances:
- Within your family group: your answers and profile information are accessible to other members of families you belong to, as determined by your sharing settings.
- Service providers: we use Firebase (Google) for authentication, database, and hosting. Their privacy policy applies to data processed on their infrastructure.
- Legal compliance: we may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights.
5. Data retention
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app settings. Upon deletion, all personal data is permanently removed within 90 days.
Note: data shared with other family members (e.g., answers visible to the family) may remain in their accounts after you delete yours.
6. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Deletion: request deletion of your account and all associated data.
- Portability: request your data in a portable format.
- Objection: object to certain types of processing.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
